Artist statement
In this decade of incessant action and boom of technological wonders glorifying progression, movement, and speed, this society renders it difficult to find stillness and time for reflection and observation. Rarely is there opportunity to study a stranger’s countenance and physical features or explore the beauty of everyday objects in commonplace settings. Everyone is constantly in motion, and to see takes time.
While pushing forward is essential for retaining balance like a bicycle, in possession is the freedom of relishing the ride and indulging in the beauty of everything crossing the path, which I challenge my viewers to undertake.
Focusing on portraiture and still-life, when my hands and brush dance and press a thick-layer of oil-based paint onto canvas, I capture the spirit and soul of my muses on the flat fabric. Drawn by my art, viewers wield this invaluable, rare occasion of pausing and observing to study my subjects’ variety of defining features, expressions, and postures. I bring to light the beauty and diversity of people and objects we are constantly surrounded by and can observe.
Additionally, as American realist oil painter Edward Hopper declares, “if I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.” Through my artwork, I implant knots of emotions and curiosity in lieu of words into beholders, so that they can untangle it into strings of thought and interpretation, original and disparate.

NATIONAL MEDAL, SCHOLASTIC ART NATIONAL
2022 Scholastic Awards National Winner. Less than 2,000 works received a National Medal out of 260,000 works. Placed within the top 1% of all submissions. Journey of Discovery published in Online Gallery and name listed in Yearbook 2022.
1st PLACE OIL/ACRYLIC/PASTEL PORTRAIT JUNIOR, TEXAS STATE FAIR
Acquired 1st Place in Oil/Acrylic/Pastel Portrait A.135 Division for Juniors for a consecutive year through The Emergence and Capture
3 GOLD KEYS, SCHOLASTIC ART REGIONAL
Attained three Gold Keys in the Regional Competition with oil paintings Journey of Discovery, The Year We Took All for Granted, & Ambition. Became qualified for Nationals.
THE WILMA DENNIS MEMORIAL AWARD BEST OF SHOW, WINSTON SCHOOL OF DALLAS TVAA HIGH SCHOOL JURIED ART COMPETITION
Exhibited in the Winston School of Dallas in the TVAA 2022 Annual High School Juried Art Competition through Ambition. Awarded Best in Show amongst the 50 artworks selected from over 300 entries from Texas high school students. Acquired $750 cash award.
HONORABLE MENTION, ART SHOW INTERNATIONAL 3RD PORTRAIT ADULT DIVISION
Entered into an adult division international art competition and attained Honorable Mention for Ambition, Faith, Journey of Discovery, and Eyes’ Glimmer of Joy

Received an Honorable Mention from Congressman Van Taylor TX-03 through the painting Journey of Discovery in Congressional Art Competition.
